Windows 10: a free update for hackers yes ... but

Earlier in the week, a Microsoft executive, Terry Myerson, surprised everyone, including, I think, public relations Microsoft, announcing that everyone would receive a free upgrade to Windows 10, even users with a pirated or non-genuine license. He then had a big white, before the voice of Microsoft PR takes the floor.

First, he confirmed to ZDNet that "the plan to offer free updates for non-genuine copies of Windows applies to all markets", not just in China. Then, an official statement has been sent.

Here is the passage, not translated, the latter: "We-have-been always Committed to Ensuring That customers-have the best experience possible to Windows. With Windows 10, ALTHOUGH non-Genuine PCs blind in May upgrade to Windows 10, the upgrade won't change the genuine state of the license. Non-Genuine Windows is not published by Microsoft. It is not licensed juste, or supported by Microsoft or a trusted partner. If a device Was Considered non-genuine gold mislicensed prior to the upgrade, That device Will To Be Considered continuous non-genuine gold mislicensed partner after the upgrade. Selon industry experts, use of pirated software, Including Non-Genuine Windows, results in a Higher Risk of malware, fraud (identity theft, credit card theft, etc.), public exposure of your personal information, and A Higher Risk for poor performance Malfunctions or feature. "

As you can read, this statement has a very confusing sentence: if a device was considered inauthentic before the upgrade, the device will continue to be considered as non-genuine thereafter. Qu'entende society by that statement remains an enigma.

A time limit?

Obviously, if you are using a pirated version of Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, you will get a free upgrade to Windows 10, but it will still be considered "non-genuine". Does that mean that you will have a nag screen every time you start? Does this mean that you are going to use your PC for a few weeks before it is blocked and requires you to purchase a license?

Perhaps more disturbing, is that users have a version of Windows 10 non-genuine will not be blocked to the current version of the OS, without capacity to update it? If the firm provides a free upgrade to Windows 10 for all pirates, then while blocking the update process, would be a very confusing move by the Redmond giant. However, Microsoft has already done so in the past, and it would not be surprising that the firm adopts the same pattern with Windows 10.

Yet until we get more details from Microsoft, we're going to be cautious on the promise of a free upgrade to Windows 10 and an armistice for pirates. It is hoped that non-genuine copies of Windows 10 will always receive updates and security fixes, but it is dangerous to make that assumption.
