Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition it is launched in Europe for 299 euros

If you've been wanting to get their hands on a smartphone running the Ubuntu platform, but have been somewhat cooled by the first two smartphones BQ Ubuntu, there is now a more powerful option, and therefore more interesting.

If the Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition was launched in China in the month of May, as of today, it is put on sale in Europe for 299 euros. But there is a catch: there will be a limited amount of available devices, so you will need to make an application, wait for an invitation before you can actually control the smartphone.

Meizu MX4 initially launched as an Android device, but Ubuntu version has the same components. It features a Full HD screen 5.4 inches, an octa-core processor MediaTek MT6595, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 20.7-megapixel camera, and a battery of 3 100 mAh.

The particularity: Ubuntu

For those unaware, Ubuntu is an operating system based on GNU / Linux, which was originally designed for desktop computers, laptops and servers. But the folks at Canonical (the company behind Ubuntu) worked into a user-friendly version dedicated to the operating system smartphones and tablets.

You can download and install Ubuntu on a handful of devices, including smartphones and certain Google Nexus tablet. But the Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition is simply the third device to be marketed with the pre-installed OS, and it is the most powerful among them.

The operating system has a unique user interface, emphasizing the "scopes" that allows you to view information from third-party applications on the home screen, and offers support for a small many (but growing) of native applications. Users can also access a terminal, and thus obtain a more geek experience. But this is not a device that will be part of the "convergence" of Canonical.

This will allow smartphones to perform full-fledged desktop applications and mobile applications. Connect your smartphone to a monitor, a mouse and an external keyboard so you can use it as a desktop computer, to access many features you would expect from a traditional PC running Ubuntu. Disconnect the devices, and you get a friendly touch user interface.
