The Champions League will be shown free of charge on YouTube.
BT Sport confirmed on Thursday it had struck a deal to stream the climax of Uefa’s two biggest club competitions on its own channel on the video-sharing website.
The broadcaster was already showing the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid on its freeview channel, BT Sport Showcase.
However, despite being free of charge, the channel has attracted dismal ratings for the fixtures it has shown during the first season of BT’s exclusive Uefa contract, much lower even than those games behind a paywall.
Making both finals available on other platforms should help maximise the audience for the May 28 and May 18 fixtures.
John Petter, chief executive of BT consumer, said: “We’ve always said we wanted to give top-quality sport back to the people and making the Uefa Champions League and Europa League finals free to everyone in the UK does this in a big way.
