How to reduce up to 80% of the memory consumption of your Chrome browser

The Google Chrome browser uses a lot of memory. Sometimes it consumes so much memory that your PC becomes slow or even turn off unexpectedly. Especially when you start a surf session with a multitude of open tabs. To resolve this issue, you can turn to the extension The Great Suspender which can suspend tabs manually or after a preset time.

The Great Suspender is an extension that allows you to automatically suspend inactive tabs after a certain period of time. I'll show you in this article how to use this extension to release the maximum possible memory.

How to reduce the memory consumption of the browser Chrome?

Step 1:

When you start Google Chrome and you open multiple tabs at the same time, the memory consumption may reach several hundred MB, which can really slow down your computer. It is therefore recommended to check how much memory consumes Google Chrome. To identify sites and add-ons that consume the most memory, click the "Menu" button and then "Tools" then "Task Manager." The tabs, applications, extensions, and add-on individually identified. Click "Memory" column to sort in ascending order.

To stop a process in the list, select it and click "End Process", which will allow you to retrieve from memory. If you stop a page, it will be closed and an error message will appear. To restore the page, click "Refresh".

Step 2:

To stop each process individually install the extension "The Great Suspender". This will suspend the tabs that run in the background. The pages remain open, however, they again become active when you click on "click to Reload" or "Refresh this page" button.

To suspend a page, select it, click the Great Suspender icon and "Suspend this tab". To suspend all pages and release the maximum memory, click "Suspend all tabs". Click on a page to update or click "Reload all tabs".

Step 3:

Click "Settings" and choose "Show history" to view recently suspended applications by date. You can suspend again the apps that were previously or click "Reload all tabs for this days". Back to "Setting" and click "Clear Histroy" to empty the list.

Step 4:

In "Setting", you can create a whitelist of sites that you always want to keep as active. For example YouTube. We often tend to leave a video to load before playing. So to keep tab of an active site, enter a keyword for a site in the "Whitelist" field. Extension Great Suspender can also automatically suspend tabs after a period of inactivity. Select the time from the drop down menu.

Finally, remember that The Great Suspender saves the state of your tabs when you close the browser, allowing to restart quickly by only loading in memory that active pages.
