Periscope finally comes on Android!

Finally, Twitter has just launched the Android version of Periscope, the enterprise livestreaming platform that allows people to broadcast a live video feed from their smartphone.

The company acquired Periscope in January, while the application was still in beta. But it has sparked so much interest - both good and bad - since its launch in late March. Twitter CEO Dick Costolo said that more than a million people have registered for application in its first ten days.

The Android version is expected to significantly increase the user base of Periscope. But in addition to being available on the popular Google mobile platform, Android version comes with a small bonus. Indeed, it has more selective controls around notifications that the iOS version.
Although the application is very useful when you can record a live show, lots of notifications are usually a must, but they can be confusing quickly depending on who you follow. Hopefully the new controls will help.

In addition, there is a new feature of "return to broadcasting," which allows viewers to return to a stream after being interrupted by a phone call, SMS or other annoying distraction.

Design ... for Android

The development of the Android app was led by the former designer of the Secret and Twitter application on Android, Sara Haider. Haider began development of Periscope application on Android in March. The team had to deal with the usual problems associated with fragmenting of the multitude of screen sizes.

The application supports Android 4.4 KitKat and more, facilitating development, as the video encoding hardware and video API are more evolved. It also features design elements Material Design Lollipop Android 5.0, such as the distribution of dedicated button instead of a tab found in iOS.

While the two applications are similar, Haider said that "we also have the opportunity to do some experiments on both platforms."
