New MacBook: External battery charging by the USB-C

If you are a true road warrior, you worry perhaps 9 hours of battery life announced for the new MacBook from Apple, below the 10 o'clock on the MacBook Pro and the MacBook Air 13-inch. But, you might reconsider your position by reading the rest of this article.

A hidden benefit, not announced by Apple on the now very popular (and unpopular) C-USB connector on the new MacBook is that it will perhaps afford to buy an external battery, in contrast the MagSafe port on the older models.

Similar to the way the smartphone owners can recharge their smartphones with an external battery charger such MacBook allow owners to charge their laptop if they do not have a power outlet within reach.

"Most of the accessories bearing the type-C USB specification should work with your new MacBook," wrote 9to5Mac about the new port. "Apple will not do anything to block all accessories - in fact, it will even external batteries or other Macs load the new MacBook," says the site.

This would be a radical change from Apple, which not only keeps back his own MagSafe connector, but also opens its laptops to third charging solutions. In the past, Apple has also done work to counteract the manufacturers to offer their own charging solution with its proprietary connector.

More power

Professionals will find support for the valuable external batteries. Many laptops designed for field use are supplied with a replaceable battery by the consumer. When the notebook is running out of power, users can exchange a battery with a new one to continue working.

However, given that Apple laptops come with a sealed battery, it is not possible. For professionals always on the go, have at least one external battery would allow them to have a device that works longer than 9 hours of the internal battery.

The problem with the USB-C is that it does not automatically unclipped MacBook if, for example, someone trips over the cord. One advantage that Apple is promoting with its MagSafe port, is if someone trips over the power cord, the magnet of the MagSafe cable will automatically eject the laptop. With this technique, your laptop should not end up on the ground.

Standard USB-C

With the USB-C port on the new MacBook, Apple not only replaces the MagSafe port, but also the new generation of USB 2.0 and 3.0 as well as the video output. The port can be used to connect devices such as USB drives, keyboards, monitors and televisions.

By adapting the new standard, Apple has abandoned the existing ports such as USB traditional, Thunderbolt and Mini DisplayPort. This means that you can only have one thing plugged into the USB-C port to a given time. That is, you can not charge the laptop and connect a hard drive, unless you buy an adapter or hub. But here, it will cost 79 euros minimum and always have it on you ...
