Firefox will scan your history for the suggestion advertisements

In an attempt to sell advertising space on its new Web browser home page Firefox when opening a new tab, Mozilla launches a new platform named "Suggested Tiles' specifically dedicated to advertisers. Similar to what Google is using your web search history to display targeted advertising inserts in Google Adsense, Mozilla will scrutinize your visited sites in Firefox to provide advertising to visit and display it on a page new tab.

However, there are protections for the user integrated into the new functionality such as Mozilla explains on his blog. Users will be able to disable the feature by checking a check box in the browser settings. Users can also do without the site suggestions by opting for a blank page when opening a new tab in Firefox.

If a user opts in functionality "Suggested Tiles', personal data will not be provided to advertisers, but will be aggregated and anonymized. Mozilla will not use tracking cookies to keep tabs on users or user profiles. Mozilla will have final approval on all sites that have entered the program, and will require visits to at least five similar sites before offering a suggestion related with functionality.

As a hypothetical example, a user may see an advertisement for The Food Network in the "Suggested Tiles" on its new tab if the user's home page visited recipe sites, culinary blogs or other related sites linked to the restoration. Mozilla will add a label "Suggested" on the tile to differentiate it from the rest.

Regarding the launch of Firefox, Mozilla is expected to launch the new feature in the beta version of the browser relatively soon. The full launch of the functionality of the latest version of Firefox will probably happen later in the summer.
